Origin & History

In 1891, Eduard Ysebaert opened a butcher's shop in Terneuzen in the Netherlands. He called it VLEVY, short for 'VLEeswaren Van Ysebaert' ('meat products by Ysebaert).

Almost 130 years and four generations later, VLEVY is an international company with a strong focus on product development and innovation.

Through the last decades, our sales offices have been established across Europe with all expertise needed for the international B2B protein business.

Our dedicated teams are backed by many years of experience on product knowledge and customer service.

Since 1891, Vlevy has been a professional family business. Today, more than a century later, we specialise in the production of cooked and fermented, air-dried and reformed meat products for the pizza and convenience foods markets. And we remain committed to continuously improving our time-honoured processes in order to meet the unwavering standards of quality and service that our customers have come to expect – and deserve.

1935

The 2nd generation of the Ysebaert family begins managing the company and moves operations to Belgium.

1961

The 3rd generation of the Ysebaert family begins managing the company.

1974

Production of cooked ham in cook-in packaging is started.

1995

The 4th generation of the Ysebaert family takes over the company.

1997

A new sales office is established in Paris, France (Vlevy France Sprl).

2000

Vlevy launches the IQF convenience range.

2005-2007

Vlevy constructs a new ultra-modern plant in Desteldonk (Ghent), Belgium.

The 10,000 m2 plant goes into operation in 2007.

2010

A new sales office is established in Düsseldorf, Germany (Vlevy Deutschland GmbH).

2012

Vlevy establishes a representative office in Bourne, UK (Vlevy UK Ltd.) and expands the plant built in 2007 by 3000 m2

2020

Implementing new baking line and X-ray scanning tools.
Usage of Ammonia instead of Freon.

2021

Installation of RO-system. 

2023

100% green energy provided by BEE (Belgian Eco Energy).
Placement of 1300 solar panels covering 5000m² roof.
Heat recovery system.
